We are good!

Sorry I have been slacking on my blogging entries lately. Honestly, I haven't had anything to write about. Josh is studying more than ever. I am working about 4-5 days a week and for the most part really enjoy having a job. The only new exciting thing in our life is happening next weekend. For years, the owners of Tomatoes have taken students after each mini exam to a neighboring island, Les Saintes. It costs students about 100 dollars for breakfast, drinks, a sailboat ride to and from the island, and access to a French Island with many luxuries we don't have access to on Dominica. ANYWAY, the point to this rant, is they have decided to hire a boat on Sunday just for a few students and the three spouses that work for them! So Josh and I get to go to Les Saintes for free on a sailboat next weekend. It should be a great experience and break for Josh. I am most looking forward to this pastry shop that sells chocolate croissants. I hope my freezer will hold all the goodies I want to bring back!

PS. I can't believe it is November tomorrow. The holidays are just around the corner!!

This is a shout out to my friend Courtney! Thanks for being a great friend. You are helping me survive this island when it is the last place I want to be. We are in similar boats down here and that is a comfort to me. I am also grateful you have a husband mine can get along with. It is almost like fate!! So thanks for being you!!

More Jungle Bay Fun

We thought this plant was incredible enough to share with you. It is called the Sensitiva plant, which speaks to its defense and survival mechanism. Watch how the leaves close as Josh touches them. Cool huh?!

Jungle Bay Weekend

Josh and I just returned from the most relaxing pseudo-honeymoon weekend ever! Jungle Bay Resort is located approximately 2 hours from Portsmouth on the Atlantic side of the island. We were picked up at 9am on Friday morning with our friends Courtney and Andy for 3 days and 2 nights of pure, natural deliciousness. Our activities included lounging by the pool, eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, playing monopoly in our lovely cottage, a massage with real ocean sounds!, laying in our deck hammock which overlooked the ocean and hiking to Victoria Falls, one of the largest waterfall in Dominica. The cottages at Jungle Bay are built on the side of the mountain so you have a clear view to the ocean. They also contain a king size bed which is an incredible upgrade from our full size bed. And Courtney and Andy were so thoughtful to send us a gift basket to our cottage in celebration of our belated honeymoon. (We love you guys!!!)

Overall, this was an amazingly necessary break from medical school life. It was the first time Josh has left the area between the university and our apartment so I think he was truly in heaven. We would recommend this resort for anyone who visits the island.

Syndicate Falls

These pictures are from our first week here. The school sponsors several trips to give first semester students the opportunity to see the island and all its glory. Josh and I went to Syndicate Falls. It is on the highest mountain in Dominica and is only about 20 minutes from the University.

Mini Exam 1

On Friday, Josh took the first part of his exam. He began with an anatomy practical where pins where placed in various nerves and muscles of cadavers. I was so nervous for him! I felt like I was on the high school swim team again standing behind the blocks waiting to race. YIKES. I think I was more nervous than Josh. Now he is studying for an even harder exam on Monday. I need to just get used to being nervous all the time for the next 4 years!
